We provide a complete range of SF6 gas reclaim and handling services into the industrial and power distribution sector. Our highly experienced mobile recovery teams are able to provide the following on-site services for the complete range of sulphur hexafluoride handling:

Recovery and environmental disposal

Sulphur hexafluoride, also known as SF6, is a chemically stable, non-toxic gas. Because it has high dielectric strength and thermal stability this gas is often used in electrical switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers and substations.

According to environmental agencies the electric power industry uses about 80% of all the SF6 gas produced worldwide and is responsible for about 70% of SF6 emissions. However, SF6 gas is also a potent greenhouse gas with high global warming potential. This is the reason it needs to be carefully handled in closed systems to minimize emissions risk.

Supply and installation of new SF6 gas into systems

Our expert team are fully mobile and can attend your site to undertake the supply of new SF6 gas into systems, including evacuation and dehydration.

System leak checking

Leakage in switchgear can cause high maintenance costs and, depending on the size, can quickly become a safety risk. Any SF6 gas leaks must therefore be identified promptly and reliably, then be eliminated.

Our SF6 gas detection services can locate leakage points and provide routine leak testing. We are able to detect even the smallest quantities of SF6 gas in the air.

Quality sampling and analysing

Verification of insulating gases quality (which includes sulphur hexafluoride) is crucial for a high voltage system to work correctly.

We provide analytical services for different insulating gases including SF6 and Novec™ 4710 gas mixture (g3 gas). Our service equipment can measure the concentration of up to six parameters.

Helping you stay compliant with F-gas regulations

We provide traceability for all gas movements as required by the “F Gas” regulations, therefore enabling our clients to comply with their environmental responsibilities. By using Refcom software we can undertake the following essential recordkeeping on your behalf:

You must keep records for five years on the:

  • quantity and type of gas in the equipment when it’s installed.
  • quantity and type of gas added during maintenance (for example in leak repairs).
  • dates and results of all mandatory leak checks.
  • what you’ve done to recover and dispose of gas – for example, record the registered waste carrier you use to dispose of it.

If the gas used in the equipment has been recycled or reclaimed you must record:

  • quantity of gases recovered.
  • name, address and certificate number of the recycling or reclamation facility

It is important to undertake this traceability as The Environment Agency may ask to see your records during an inspection.
